There are always multiple items to consider and decide on before travelling. Information listed in this section may be helpful as you plan your holiday and prepare to travel. Before you go, do your own research about the country you plan to visit, visas and vaccinations requirements. It is also advisable to learn a few phrases in the local language (LuxeSafaris has a list of commonly used words and phrases translated into Swahili - provided to all travellers together with booking arrangements).
It would be a good idea to arrange supplementary health insurance and travel insurance. Carry proof of insurance coverage, and give a copy to someone at home. Consult your local medical centre for any required vaccinations. If you are taking medication with you, make sure you keep it in its original container. Carry a doctor's prescription for any controlled drugs and any medical certificates. Leave copies of medical certificates at home as well.
Make sure your passport has not expired and is valid for six months beyond the time of your trip and has at least two empty pages for visa stamps, more if you are visiting more than two countries as, if opting for visas on arrival, many countries tend to take whole pages with their visa stickers. Photocopy the identification page and keep it separate from your passport. Leave another copy with someone at home.
Keep the original receipts for any purchases you make, as well as for your hotel bill, rental car agreement, and medical service bills.
