Mount Kilimanjaro, Key info:
World's highest free standing mountain and highest Point in Africa
Uhuru Peak at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro
Uhuru Peak, 5,895m, referred to as "Roof of Africa", accessible to climbers without specialist mountain climbing expertise
Glacier at the top of Kilimanjaro is slowly decreasing in size. Take the opportunity now to see as much of it as possible
Annually, over 30,000 climbers attempt to reach the summit with an overall success rate of over 50% (latest unconfirmed information is over 65% with more climbers taking the 6 and 7 day routes rather than the 5 day route). The majority of those that do not make it was due to altitude sickness which can get afffect the fittest of us. Climbers that did not reach the summit mostly suffered their most on the final summit climb (from around 4,600m to 5,895m)
From personal experience of LuxeSafari founnders (one of whom, aged 57, reached the summit in July 2017), two main factors should increase chances of success:
1. Opportunity to get adequate altitude acclimitisation time, and
2. Ability to get adequate rest and sleep in the cold and sometimes wet conditions
To this end, LuxeSafaris have teamed up with a local provider in Moshi to offer Kilimanjaro climb treks with an enhanced support content to ensure the climbers get greater opportunity to rest during the early days of the climb and have enough reserve to withstand the energy requirements of the final summit climb.
There are several routes used by climbers to reach the summit at Uhuru Peak (see below). Shown on this site are itineraries for two of our more popular routes, selected as the ones providing excellent acclimitasion profiles that should allow reasonably fit climbers to reach Uhuru Peak. The LuxeSafari group took the Lemosho Route in July 2017. Others routes itineraries available on request.
